Longville Area Community Choir search for Director and accompanist
The Longville Area Community Choir (LACC), a beloved musical tradition in the region since 1990, is facing an uncertain future following the retirement of its longtime director and accompanist.
The choir was originally formed by singers from Salem Lutheran Church, Longville Community Church, Longville Bible Chapel, and St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with the goal of performing at the VFW Memorial Day program. The group quickly expanded, welcoming singers from across neighboring communities who shared a passion for choral music.
Over the years, the LACC became a cornerstone of community celebrations, performing at the Memorial Day program, community Thanksgiving services, annual Christmas concerts, and leading Christmas caroling at the Longville Christmas Tree lighting.
An offshoot group, the costumed Victorian Singers, also emerged—performing at local holiday open houses and continuing to delight audiences each year at the Christmas Cookie Walk hosted by St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
At its height, the choir featured around 50 members on stage for its annual Christmas concert, with a record turnout of approximately 70 singers during the Longville Centennial celebration in 2006.
However, participation has declined in recent years, largely due to an aging population and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which paused rehearsals and performances for two years. The 2024 Christmas concert featured just 33 singers.
This summer, the LACC learned that both its director and accompanist would be stepping down. Without leadership to guide rehearsals and performances, the board of directors made the difficult decision to cancel the 2025 season, including all rehearsals and the Christmas concert.
Despite this setback, members remain hopeful. The LACC board is actively searching for a new director and accompanist to help carry the tradition forward.
“We know that many of our singers want to see the choir continue,” said the LACC board. “We’re doing everything we can to keep music as part of Longville’s cherished community events.”
Even as the search continues, the board intends to ensure that local gatherings such as the Veterans Recognition Supper, the Christmas Tree lighting, the Christmas Cookie Walk, and the Memorial Day program still feature live choral music.
