   Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that on Sunday November 16th 2025 at 4:37PM the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call with the caller reporting hearing shooting near residences in the area of Old Agency Drive and Onigum Road NW (County Road 13), in Turtle Lake Township, rural Walker, MN. Deputies arrived in the area and initiated an investigation. A short time later, Deputies attempted to make contact with a male subject who was walking in the 8000 block of Onigum Road NW. The male subject fled on foot from Deputies and a foot pursuit ensued. There was an exchange of gun fire. During the shooting a Deputy was shot and transported via helicopter to a Fargo, ND hospital for further treatment. The male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Body worn cameras were utilized and active in this incident. Deputies involved have been placed on critical incident leave during the investigation. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is on scene and leading the investigation. Future information will be released by the MN BCA.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk provides the following update regarding the critical incident that occurred on Sunday, November 16th, 2025, in Turtle Lake Township.

The Cass County Deputy who was shot during the exchange of gunfire was treated at a Fargo, North Dakota hospital and has since been released. The deputy sustained a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh and is expected to make a full recovery. We ask the community to continue to keep him, his family, and all those affected by this tragic incident in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to heal. Our Office extends a sincere thank you for your wishes and continued support regarding this situation. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continues to lead the investigation and will handle all further media releases related to this incident.
