Donald (Don) John Charpentier

b. March 4, 1942 d. May 18, 2025

Donald “Don” John Charpentier, passed away peacefully at his residence in Longville, Minnesota at the age of 83 after a life filled with dedication to family, community, and the outdoors.

Born on March 4, 1942, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Don was the beloved son of Walter and Catherine Charpentier. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Selby), and together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage built on love, partnership, and a shared sense of purpose.

Don began his career as an apprentice carpenter at Kraus-Anderson, where his strong work ethic and leadership earned him a long and successful career. He rose through the organization to the role of Vice President of Field Operations and retired after 38 years of service. He took immense pride in building not just structures, but relationships and community throughout his career.

A man with a deep love for the outdoors, Don found joy in hunting, fishing, and simply spending time in nature. He was known to befriend the local wildlife, especially a favorite fox who received special treats after dinner each night. When he wasn’t outside, Don could often be found with a good book in hand, or spending time in his workshop.

Don’s true legacy lies in his generosity and service. He gave tirelessly to his community, lending his carpentry skills and unshakable willingness to help anyone in need. He served on the Longville Community Park Commission, the Longville Area Food Shelf Construction Committee, the Longville Baseball Field Development Committee and was a board member of the Longville History Center.

Beyond his contributions to committees and boards, he lent a hand on countless other projects, including repairing items donated to the Tossed & Found thrift store, supporting the Food Shelf, Garden Club, St. Edward’s Parish and helping friends and neighbors. He believed deeply in making his community a better place, and his quiet acts of service left a lasting impact on those around him.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Catherine, and his sister Mary Lou. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Carol; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Tina Charpentier; and his cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Nick, and Anna. He is also survived by his siblings Catherine (Pat) Egan, Dorothy, and Stephen, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his steady presence and generous spirit.

In honor of Don’s memory, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Hope Lodge, Rochester, MN, of which Don and Carol were grateful beneficiaries during a long stay at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, or the Longville Area Food Shelf, an organization that he and his wife have supported for many years.

Services will be held at St. Edward’s Parish, 4905 MN-84, Longville, MN on May 29th, with visitation at 10 a.m., mass at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Brenny of Pine River, MN.
