Heintzeman wins District 6A special election
Republican Kari Heintzeman of Nisswa has won the special election to represent District 6 in the Minnesota State Senate. Heintzeman secured 60.27% of the vote, defeating DFL candidate Denise Slipy in the March 30 special general election, according to unofficial results.
The election was called following the resignation of Senator Justin Eichorn, who stepped down on March 20. A special primary was held ahead of the general election to determine party candidates.
While Heintzeman’s victory adds another Republican to the chamber, it does not change the overall balance of power. The Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party retains its majority in the Minnesota Senate.
Heintzeman will serve the remainder of the term representing District 6, which finishes in 2026.
