Fresh picks: farmers markets in full bloom around the Lakeland
Summer is in full bloom, and so are the Lakeland’s beloved farmers markets, your one-stop spots for fresh produce, homemade goods, and small-town charm. Each market brings its own flavor to the season, offering a chance to shop local, eat well, and support area growers and makers.
In Longville, the farmers market sets up shop every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. right next to Common Grounds Coffee Shop at 1428 Co. Rd. 5. Running from July 1 through mid-September, it’s the perfect place to grab a latte and stroll through booths filled with fresh vegetables, baked goods, handmade crafts and more.
Just down the road in Hackensack, the market also pops up every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Hub, located at 213 1st St. S, next to the post office. This year’s season will wrap up with a special Saturday market on Sept. 27, so be sure to mark your calendar for an extra dose of local flavor.
Pine River’s market brings the community together every Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. next to the Depot, 102 W Barclay Ave. It’s a great way to start your weekend with fresh-picked produce and friendly conversation. They accept SNAP/EBT and offer Market Bucks – up to $20 additional, as well as Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons.
Over in Backus, vendors gather each Thursday from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Backus Lumber & Supply, 4169 4th St. NW. Whether you’re after jams, jellies, or garden goodies, you’re sure to find something worth taking home.
Remer hosts its market Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Soo Line Depot, 45 W Main St., where local farmers and artisans share the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor with marketgoers of all ages.
And don’t forget about Walker, where the market runs Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Green Scene Market & Eatery, 617 Michigan Ave. Held from June through September, it’s a lively, extended market that pairs perfectly with a morning out in town.
Whether you’re shopping for garden-fresh produce, unique handmade gifts, or simply looking to catch up with neighbors and friends, there’s a local farmers market near you waiting to be explored. So grab a tote bag, bring your appetite, and make the most of summer at one, or all, of these community gems.
