Betty M. Johnson, age 99, of Grand Rapids, MN, formerly of Remer, MN, died Monday, July 28, 2025, at Garden Court Chateau, Grand Rapid, MN.
Betty was born in 1926 in Remer, MN to Swan and Cecilia Johnson. Betty attended Remer Elementary and High School. After graduation she was employed at the Security State Bank of Remer for one year until a health issue forced her to resign. After recovery, she began employment at Remer Consolidated School District #1 where she was employed for 37 years as district bookkeeper. After retirement from the school, she volunteered for St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Remer doing office work for 21 years. She also volunteered during the winter at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Longville.
Betty along with local clergy were instrumental in starting the Remer Food Shelf. Betty enjoyed taking several bus tours and many beautiful tours with her sister Carol and brother-in-law Roy in their motor home throughout the United States and Prince Edward Island, Canada. They also flew to Hawaii on vacation. Before ending her travels, she went on two tours to Ireland, England, and France.
In 1998, Betty sold her home in Remer and moved to a townhome in Grand Rapids. There she enjoyed volunteering at the Grand Rapids Food Shelf and for funeral luncheons at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, John and Elner Johnson; and nephew, Bill.
She is survived by her sister, Carol (Roy) Mason; nephew, John Michael Johnson; and great nieces and nephews, Cody, Lee, Molly, and Briana Johnson.
Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10:00 am at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN followed by the 11:00 am funeral service. Deacon Steve Schuler will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Remer, MN.
