The 32nd Annual Fourth of July Boat Parade on Lake Washburn sailed on despite stormy forecasts, and was dedicated to Grace Schuller, who co-founded the event in 1993 with her husband, Jack. The couple launched the tradition with just a few boats circling Birch Bay, and it has since grown into a beloved annual spectacle. This year’s parade featured 58 patriotically decorated watercraft, led by Grand Marshal Jack Schuller and Captain John Harris. Highlights included a pirate pontoon with a water cannon, a trailing sailboat (the aqua version of a Blue Angels flyover), and a surprise appearance by Lady Liberty. Deputies Pat Maranda and Greg Hosch provided a Sheriff’s escort. Photos by Peder Schuller and Vicki Lipstreuer.
