Pickleball legend Scott Moore returns to Longville

Pickleball Hall of Famer, Scott Moore, winner of 21 National gold medals and 7 National Triple Crowns (a feat that may never be duplicated) will return to Longville on August 27th to share his “10 principles of winning pickleball” with our Longville pickleball community.

Barbie Laughlin (my better half) and I love to pursue our passions, so it was only natural that, in the winter of 2018, we sought a way to combine our longtime love of travel with our newfound passion for pickleball. When we learned that, then 16-time USAP National Champion, Scott Moore, would be conducting a pickleball “boot camp” in San Carlos, Mexico, we eagerly signed up. Little did we know that the five-day clinic had been organized for the local ex-pat community, and that we were the only out-of-towners. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that we would be staying with Scott, his wife Susan, and the other instructor, in a beautiful beach home on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. Not only did we improve our skills, we enjoyed Scott and Susan’s company so much that I asked them if they liked to waterski, and invited them to visit us at Blackwater Lake. Scott quickly agreed, and asked if I could organize some clinics for him to teach while he was here. The clinics were such a success (the general level of play in the Longville Pickleball Club has improved every time a number of us have taken one of Scott’s clinics) that Scott has been back for a visit almost every summer since - with Susan joining him when her schedule permits. Barbie and I have become good friends with Scott and Susan, and often see them in St. George, Utah, where we compete in the Huntsman World Sr. Games (she in running and I in volleyball – we’re still working on our pickleball), or in The Villages of Florida, where we spend our winters now.

Scott’s clinic is for players rated 3.0 to 3.5+, and will be held at Stuart Park. The clinic will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 27th and the cost will be $120 per person. Scott’s clinics help players improve their game through a systematic approach that focuses on strategy, positioning, technique, skill development, and practice methods. Barbie and I love the way Scott transforms various drills into games – making practicing fun.

Scott’s wife Susan, who travels with Scott when she can, will be teaching a “Women’s Only Clinic” for recreational level (2.0 to 3.0) players, or those who “just like to play for fun.” Susan, who won silver in the women’s 4.5 doubles division at the 2017 USAPA Nationals, taught this clinic a few years ago, and it was enthusiastically received by the participants. In this clinic, Susan will share the Moore family’s secrets to success (their son Daniel has also won major national championships) in a laid-back, no pressure atmosphere. The clinic will run from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 27th and the cost will be $70 per person.
