   The Child, Girl, Woman Lakes Area Association (CGWLAA) is pleased to announce its 2025 Annual Meeting, scheduled for Saturday, August 2 at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville.

   This year’s gathering promises to be both informative and enjoyable, featuring exciting giveaways for attendees. Door prizes include BearWise ball caps and CGWLAA t-shirts featuring the association’s new logo. Coffee and donuts will be served.

   Two board positions—President and Secretary—are up for election. Both roles are two-year terms, and current board members have expressed interest. However, nominations are open to all members.    Immediately following the business portion of the meeting, guest speaker Franklin Whittaker, Wildlife Damage Extension Specialist with the Minnesota DNR, will present “BearWise.” His presentation will include a PowerPoint and cover how to avoid unwanted bear encounters, what to do if you come across a bear in the wild, and other practical tips. The BearWise program was developed by black bear biologists to help communities prevent conflicts and promote coexistence.

   The BearWise presentation is open to the public and will begin right after the CGWLAA meeting concludes. All current members are encouraged to attend, and new members are welcome to join at the meeting.
