The regular board meeting held Wednesday, July 9 was a typical summer meeting with light attendance and routine readings and adoptions of school policies and acceptance of bids. Superintendent Mark Morrison was in attendance for his first official meeting. With only a week under his belt there was nothing official to report, but he did mention he was settling in and beginning to look at financial information.
During the approval of revisions to various handbooks, Board Chair Marc Ruyak inquired why the word forbidden was stricken and changed to not advised in the policy regarding food in the classroom. Ruyak feels that food should be forbidden in classrooms to help maintain cleanliness and less distraction. With no administrators in attendance no explanation could be given or discussed, therefore, Ruyak asked for a motion to approve the revisions to the 2025-2026 Student & Family Handbook with the exception of the change to the food in classrooms and leaving it at forbidden. It was suggested this be brought up for discussion during the next work session. A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously.
The board also approved the hire of three coaching positions for the 2025-2026 season, Sam Sparen as Head Football Coach, Jeremy Schwarz as Head Boys Basketball Coach and Steve Martin as Assistant Boys Basketball Coach.
The board has scheduled the following meetings: a work session, Wed., July 23 at 5:30 p.m.; policy committee, Mon., Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. and the regular meeting, Wed., Aug. 13 9 at 5:30 p.m. All meetings are held at Northland High School.
