LETTER TO THE EDITOR
A shared space, a shared responsibility
As you may have read or seen on the poster, the Longville Community Park and Recreation has recently finished up grading the playground at Stuart Memorial Community Park on the edge of town on Highway 84. Many upgrades have been done recently to the whole park and we are all exited to share it with everyone who visits, vacations or lives in Longville and the surrounding townships. Some of the upgrades that have been made are: the shuffle board court has been repainted, the tennis courts have been repaved, there are new pickleball courts, the equipment shed has been cleaned and new equipment has been bought and placed in the shed. This is all wonderful, and we are grateful to those that got the upgrades done.
There has been a large problem noted in the past two weeks. The members of the Park Committee have noted that people are leaving their garbage around the playground. Several members have had to go clean this garbage up. At present, there are garbage containers up in the pavilion and hope to have one by the playground soon. The new equipment that has been placed in the shed has gone missing. Much of this equipment was donated by a citizen in our extended community. They came with some of their family, went to use the basketball and volleyball, but they were missing. Another time, a commitee member went to go empty the trash in the shed and all but one of the pickeball balls were gone. Some of the equipment was left around the park. These are just some of the issues that have occurred. The Park and Recreation Committee, local townships, City of Longville and others have tried to make our park a place that can be shared by everyone, but we need to work together to make sure everyone picks up after they or their children use the equipment, placed back in the shed and through their garbage in the trash after eating. We all can make the community park fun to play at for all in our extended community.
Thank you to everyone who has spent time volunteering to make the park a place for everyone. We could not do it without you. Thank you to those who use this great asset to the area and help keep it great. Remember, this is your park.
