Officer-involved shooting in City of Walker

Walker, MN — On August 8, 2025, at approximately 6:39 p.m., a City of Walker Police Officer was flagged down by a resident reporting a male wearing only boxer shorts and acting erratically. Around the same time, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a male matching the same description was in front of a business on Minnesota Avenue carrying a knife. Callers also reported that several vehicles in the area had their tires punctured.

The responding officer located the male, and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect fled to the Dollar General store near the intersection of State Highway 34 and State Highway 200 on Minnesota Avenue. Once inside, the suspect threatened to kill all employees.

The officer encountered the suspect inside the store, where the suspect sprayed bug spray and threw items at the officer. The officer gave repeated commands for the suspect to drop the knife. The suspect then charged at the officer, prompting the officer to discharge his service weapon one time. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the left arm.

Officers immediately provided medical aid. North Ambulance arrived on scene and continued medical care, including applying a tourniquet to the suspect’s arm. The suspect was transported to the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji by North Ambulance. The injury is not believed to be life-threatening. The officer was wearing a body camera, which was recording during the incident.

The officer has been placed on critical incident leave, which is standard procedure. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is leading the investigation. The names of the officer and the suspect will be released at a later date and time by the BCA.

Assisting agencies included the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Leech Lake Police Department, Pine River Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, and North Ambulance.

No further information is available at this time. All questions about the investigation should be directed to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
