Get ready for a day that celebrates imagination, creativity, and community spirit! The Northwoods Arts Council is thrilled to host the 30th Annual Art & Book Festival, a beloved tradition and the longest-running event of its kind in Minnesota. Join us Saturday, August 9th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Hackensack, for a vibrant festival that continues to surprise and delight year after year.

This milestone celebration promises to be better than ever with over 65 visual artists and 35 Minnesota-based authors showcasing their unique works. Follow the signs to Lake Avenue and Third Street, where the streets will be transformed into a colorful corridor of artistic expression and the Community Building will be filled with talented artists as well. Visitors can explore a diverse mix of media, from oil and acrylic paintings to photography, fiber art, woodwork, jewelry, clay, and metal creations. Many new artists will be making their festival debut, ensuring a fresh experience even for longtime attendees.

Looking for a meaningful gift? Whether you’re shopping for early Christmas presents, birthday surprises, or thoughtful hostess tokens, you’re sure to find something handmade and heartfelt. NAC canvas totes will be available for purchase at the registration table and inside the UCC hallway. They’re sturdy, stylish, and perfect for carrying your books and other treasures. Proceeds support the Northwoods Arts Council and help us continue bringing you this fabulous Art & Book Festival.

Literary lovers don’t miss the authors inside Union Congregational Church. Stroll among 35 accomplished Minnesota writers, chat with them about their work, and pick up a signed copy or two. An unforgettable way to connect with local talent and personalize your purchase for a lasting memory.

Hungry? Indulge in a slice of homemade heaven with Pies by Guys, crafted by local pie master Jeannette Dudley. Served with or without ice cream, these crowd favorites go fast. So don’t wait too long!

This year continues to provide many children’s activities, including the much-loved Hackensack Lions’ “Lion Safari”, complete with a pith helmet, binoculars, and an exciting clue lead hunt for Leo the Lion. WonderTrek Children’s Museum returns with hands-on activities designed for children ages 4–10.  You may want to get your face painted as well, so don’t forget to head to the Children’s Tent on the ball field.

To keep everyone comfortable, you’ll find plenty of shaded seating throughout the festival, including a large tent near the food trucks, where you can enjoy great eats, craft beer, and wine.

This cherished event wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the Five Wings Arts Council, the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment, Sourcewell, and the Hackensack Lions Club.

Whether you’re an art lover, bookworm, foodie, music fan, or just looking for a joyful day out in the Northwoods, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

Save the date, Saturday, August 9th, and we’ll see you in Hackensack!
