   Wonderful weather was on order for the 105 participants today. The big fish were elusive today. There was a 13 ounce fish caught, but in two age groups, we only had 4 ounce fish as biggest fish. We had some extra excitement in the 0-5 year old group. We called winners and they were no longer there, so we ‘trickle’ down the list to find alternate winners. This caused several ‘bumping’ for better prizes and others called to win something. Bonus info…320 hot dogs were devoured by all. Only 2 weeks left!

Kids fishing contest ages 0-5

At the Hackensack Kid’s Fishing Contest Tuesday, July 29, 31 kids in the 0-5 year old group, caught and released 34 fish. Hudson H. caught the largest fish (4.0 oz.);Jordy D. reeled in the first fish; Luca R. landed the most fish (6); and Vienna M. hooked the smallest fish (3.375 inches).

   This year some of the members of the Hackensack Chapter of the Izaak Walton League will be attending the contests on June 24, July 22, and August 12 to raise awareness of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s ‘Get the Lead Out’ program. Please go through your tackle boxes and bring all your lead tackle to them. They will turn it in and in return give you a sample of lead-free tackle.

Kids fishing contest ages 6-9

43 kids in the 6-9 year old group, caught and released 92 fish. Soma V. caught the largest fish (13.8 oz.); Oliver L. reeled in the first fish; Jordan E. landed the most fish (15); and the smallest fish award went to Melanie P. (3.25 inches) .

   The hot dog sponsor this week was Cedar Point Realty (upnorthpropertysearch.com). Thank you for your help cooking and serving hot dogs.

Kids fishing contest ages 10-15

31 kids caught and released 85 fish. Oliver V. hooked the largest fish (3.5 oz.); the first fish was caught by Isaac H., Geena L. caught the most fish (30) and the smallest fish (3.25 inches) was landed by Finbar K.

   The dates for this year are every Tuesday, June 10th – August 12th, 2025 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Be early to register before it starts. We look forward to seeing everyone that can make it.

Minnow Racing Winner
