   Camp Olson YMCA has named John Lyon as its new Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director, effective January 6, 2025. John was selected by the Camp Olson YMCA Board of Directors, following a 5-month search. John Lyon will succeed Russell Link who will be retiring in January 2025. In his new role, John Lyon will be responsible for fiscal management, developing and implementing a strategic plan, improving operating performance, fundraising and staff development.

   During our search for a new CEO, we looked at candidates from throughout the country, but John Lyon stood out among the rest. His energy and vision for Camp Olson YMCA is what we were looking for in a leader. With John’s 20+ years of experience leading and directing YMCA camps and branches in both Florida and Texas and his passion toward working with youth and serving their communities, we are convinced that Camp Olson YMCA will have fantastic leadership for years to come.

   John Lyon comes to Camp Olson YMCA with 30 years of experience in the non-profit world, currently serving at the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast where he has been the VP of Camp & Branch Operations for the past 6 years. While there, John increased residential camp revenue, expanded enrollment and added numerous capital improvements. Prior to YMCA of Florida’s First Coast, John also worked for the Greater Kingsport Family YMCA, the CHASCO Family YMCA, YMCA Camp McConnell and YMCA Camp Twin Lakes. John holds a Bachelor’s degree from Western Governors University and is currently working on a Master’s degree from the same university.
