Ray was born March 21, 1927 in Brandon, Minnesota to George and Violet (Whitman) Hausken. Ray enlisted in the US Army in June of 1945 and served as a food inspector. He was honorably discharged in May of 1947 and then returned home to Longville where he worked on the farm, and at his neighbor's lumber mill. He used his income earned to help his parents pay for their farm. In 1962 he married Karen Joyce Johnson and they moved into a house on Little Boy Lake near Longville. They had two children together, Andrew and Karen. In 1965 Ray moved his family out to Preston, Washington where he worked at Wheyerhuser Lumber Company grading lumber until returning to Longville in 1972. He continued farming, and also did some logging until 1989 when health problems forced him into early retirement at the age of 62. For the last year he received care at the Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Ray enjoyed hunting, gardening, picking mushrooms, caring for animals, and most anything outdoors. Some of his hobbies were coin collecting, stamp collecting, rock picking and polishing, free-hand painting, and playing violin or harmonica. Ray will be remembered as a hard worker with a generous and nurturing soul.
