The Northland Lady Eagles kicked off their season last Tuesday hosting conference foe Deer River. The girls jumped out to an early lead before third year starter Kristine Johnson ran into foul trouble just nine minutes into the contest. Trailing by just nine at the half, the ladies were unable to close the gap and came up on the short end of a 63-73 loss at the final buzzer.

"This was not a bad game for our first time out this season, we really missed Kristine's experience and presence on the floor." Commented Head Coach Jenny Kovall.

Maddy Shepard led the charge with 21 points and four rebounds. Kali Wake put in 13 points and came down with seven boards. Johnson added 11 points and eight rebounds along with Lexi Greene with 10 points and three rebounds.

"We were very outsized and hit the boards pretty hard most of the game. Our strengths are pushing the ball and running a transition game. we aren't quite in that shape yet, but it won't take long! We did a lot of good things nd we have some things we need to clean up before out next game," concluded Coach Kovall.

The girls will travel to Nashwauk/Keewatin Thursday in their second conference game.[[In-content Ad]]
