The Itasca Moraine and Laurentian Lakes Chapters of the North Country Trail Assoc. have scheduled their end of year celebration for Saturday, October 20th at the Terrapin Station in Nevis.

Chapter members and friends completed several miles of premier hiking trails in Hubbard and Becker Counties this year with assistance from the Minnesota Parks and Trails Legacy Grants that funded efforts of the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and other grants covering expenses of AmeriCorps crews. One example of the work was the completion of a 4.5 mile loop trail that connects to the North Country National Scenic trail and goes completely around Waboose Lake in Hubbard Country. The AmeriCorps Crew also donated time to the Hubbard Country Museum and the Urban Forestry effort in Park Rapids.

The North Country Trail is maintained by volunteer adopters who will be honored. Anyone interested in adopting a section of the trail can have questions answered at the meeting.

The celebration begins with a social time at 5 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner and awards presentations. The Chapters are furnishing the meat and beverage. The program features Bruce Matthews, Executive Director of the North Country Trail Association, Lowell Michigan, followed by Anne Dunn a local Anishinaabe Storyteller.
