Helen Spartz, 97, of Longville, MN, died Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Serenity Living Solutions in Remer, MN.

Helen was born to Anton and Mary (Honnef) Broich January 29, 1920 in Wilmont, MN. She grew up and attended school in Wilmont, where she married Donald Spartz in 1937. They raised a family and lived in various places before retiring in Longville, MN. Helen was active in St. Edward's Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting at home and at church, and she was famous for her pies. Helen especially loved playing games with her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by sons, Donald (Mary) Spartz, Steven (Denise) Spartz, David (Jennifer) Spartz; daughters, Janice (Brian) Helmer and Joan (Richard) Freeman; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; daughter, Elaine Christianson; 9 brothers and sisters.

Funeral mass was held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Longville with Fr. Keith Bertram officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Longville, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Arrangements are being handled by Dennis Funeral Home of Walker, MN (www.dennisfuneralhome.com).
