REMER - George Evans, age 72 of Remer, MN died Friday, January 6, 2012 at his home.

George was born in 1939 to George & Hannah Evans in Little Falls, MN. He attended West High School in Minneapolis graduating in 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army serving from 1957 to 1960. He then returned to Minneapolis where he met and married his wife of 50 years, Carol Ann Bjerke. In 1964, he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard serving one tour in Vietnam. After his military service, he returned to Minnesota where he attended meat cutting school in Pipestone, MN and, after completing that schooling, moved to Remer, MN in 1969. George worked at the Remer Red Owl for 15 years. He also worked at Deer River Wild Rice for several years before retiring. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in the outdoors-especially in the woods during the fall. He will be missed by family and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, and one daughter, Jane (Rusty) Jewett of Remer, MN; two sons, Michael (Debra) Evans of Coon Rapids, MN and Timothy (Barbara) Evans of Lake Nebagamon, WI; one sister, Jacquelyn Clark of Oklahoma City, OK; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10th at the Northland Alliance Church in Remer. Rev. William A. Ness will officiate.
