Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew meeting Dec. 6

CROSBY - The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew will meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Hallett Center in Crosby.

The public, especially those passionate about the more than 25 miles of singletrack mountain bike trails in the Cuyuna Lakes area, are invited to attend the meeting.

Trail expansion, maintenance and fundraising will be discussed, along with the possibility of reopening the trails for winter mountain biking.

The DNR is currently designing a winter fat bike trail system within the Sagamore Unit of the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area near Riverton. It would have around nine miles of groomed trails that can be used by fat tire bikes and snowshoes during the winter months.[[In-content Ad]]

"The mountain bike trails have helped transform us to a first class state recreation area of national significance," said Steve Weber of the DNR.

More than 15,500 people visited the Cuyuna mountain bike trails from May 3 to Nov. 3 of this year, exceeding organizers' expectations.

In June the trails gained Ride Center status from the International Mountain Bicycling Association, a feat only six other trail systems have been awarded in the United States.

"These trails are something this community is going to enjoy for generations to come," said Teddy Schaefer, member of the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew. "That's pretty sweet."

The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails, located in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area in Crosby/Ironton, is supported by IMBA, Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and many local riders.
