Cass County home sales up for 2015

WALKER - The number of homes selling in Cass County has picked up this year. Through July, there were 309 arms-length real estate sales in the county in 2014 and 381 this year.

Cass Board sets preliminary levy at 6.55 percent

WALKER - Cass County Board set a 2016 preliminary levy dollar amount Tuesday at 6.55 percent more than the 2015 budget, but this would cause only a 5.12 increase in the county's tax rate.

County Board working with Walker on sewer project

WALKER - County Engineer David Enblom reported to the county board he has been working with the city of Walker on a city project to replace sanitary and storm sewer lines under Fourth and Fifth Streets and Michigan Avenue and to repave both in 2016.

Land use permits increasing in Cass County

WALKER - Cass County Environmental Services Department issued 20 more land use permits for new buildings, additions and private sewer systems the second quarter this year than in 2014, ESD Director John Ringle reported to the county board Tuesday.

Cass Board to receive dividend

WALKER - Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust will pay Cass County a $167,569 dividend this year. Of that $108,382 is based on workers compensation insurance experience and $59,187 is based on property/casualty insurance experience.

Sheriff Burch to negotiate for additional jail beds

BACKUS - Cass County Board voted Tuesday to authorize Sheriff Tom Burch to negotiate a contract with another county to house 20 more Cass County inmates. Currently, Cass has a contract with Crow Wing County to house 40 inmates at the jail in Brainerd.
