Cooperative venture between Cass and Crow Wing counties approved

BACKUS - The Cass County Board approved another cooperative venture with Crow Wing County Tuesday, authorizing Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson to advertise demolition of abandoned buildings on tax-forfeited land jointly for both counties.

Cass forclosures up, new construction down

BACKUS - More Cass County homesteaded properties but fewer cabins went into foreclosure the third quarter this year than in 2009. Cass County Assessor Mark Peterson reported Tuesday to the county board that 35 properties went into foreclosure the third quarter this year, compared with 33 last year.

Judge rules Cass County/City of East Gull not liable for bicyclist's injuries

WALKER - Judge John P. Smith has ruled in Cass County District Court that the county and the city of East Gull Lake, under the Minnesota recreational use immunity statute, are not liable for the injuries a bicyclist suffered while riding on a trail in East Gull Lake.

No plans for Hwy. 371 Pine River to Walker four-lane expansion

WALKER - Educating the public and metro area legislators will be key to preserving water quality in north-central Minnesota, five area legislators told those assembled for a fourth annual meeting Friday at Northern Lights Event Center near Walker.

Cass County settles Netter lawsuit

WALKER - Cass County has settled a lawsuit over a street improvement project in Whipholt for $17,500, according to Administrator Robert Yochum. Eric and Constance Netter had filed suit against the county, the road improvement contractor Reierson Construction and the landscape contractor NAR Landscape Services.



Ah-Gwah-Ching tour scheduled

WALKER - Cass County Administrator Robert Yochum has asked those planning to tour the former Ah-Gwah-Ching site with the county board to notify his office ahead of time that they plan to attend.

Cass emergency management position increased to full time

BACKUS - Cass County will increase the county emergency management position from half to full time and assign the additional work hours to be spent implementing the upgraded ARMER emergency communications system.
