WALKER, Minn. — Scott Bruns of Walker, Minnesota announced today that he will seek re-election as Cass County District 4 Commissioner, a position he has held since January 1, 2015. Bruns stated that this will be his final campaign for the seat.
“For the past three terms, I’ve been grateful for the support and trust the people of Cass County have placed in me,” Bruns said. “It has truly been an honor to serve. If re-elected, I will continue to listen, communicate openly and honestly, and work hard to represent the citizens of Cass County.”
Reflecting on his tenure, Bruns highlighted several accomplishments of the County Board. “Over the past 12 years, the board has worked diligently to serve our residents. I am especially proud of the work of the Walker Ambulance Primary Service Area Special Taxing Board. Our collaboration with Hubbard County and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe to strengthen and retain emergency health services was a top priority, and the support from Cass County residents was clear and strong.”
Bruns also emphasized his commitment to balancing conservation with responsible growth. “Cass County is a special place to live and work. My father moved our family to the Leech Lake area after purchasing a resort in 1970, and I chose to make this my family’s lifelong home as well. I understand how important our lakes, forests, public lands, farms, and local businesses are to our quality of life. We must continue to protect what we have while allowing for thoughtful, responsible growth.”
Fiscal responsibility remains a key priority. “We are living in challenging economic times. As we make decisions moving forward, I will remain mindful that the resources we manage come from taxpayers.”
Bruns currently serves on several county and regional boards, including the Walker Ambulance Primary Service Area Special Taxing Board, Bi-County Community Action Program, Economic Development Corporation, Health, Human & Veterans Services, Kitchigami Regional Library Board, Leech Lake Band Liaison Committee, Mississippi Headwaters Board, Northeast Minnesota Emergency Communications Board, and the Workforce Housing Committee.
A lifelong resident of Cass County, Bruns enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Walker High School in 1973. He served four years, including three years at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne Division. He later attended Bemidji State University and built a career as a self-employed business owner in the Walker area.
Prior to his election as commissioner, Bruns served more than 30 years with the Walker Area Fire Department, including as Fire Chief. He also served over a decade as a Walker city council member and mayor. He and his wife, Jackie, have made their home in Walker since 1979. They have three married children and seven grandchildren.
