Local Minnesota author & educator Emily Kilgore at the Pine River Library
Minnesota author Emily Kilgore will visit communities across the Kitchigami Regional Library system June 22 through June 26, bringing stories, creativity, and a love of reading to young readers and families throughout the region.
During her visit, Kilgore will share her newest picture book, Huck and Loona, a heartwarming story about friendship, individuality, and understanding. Huck and Loona love spending time together in the Great Northwoods. From cloud-watching to fishing, the two want to do everything together. When they realize they sometimes want to do different things—or that there are some activities the other simply cannot do—they begin to worry that their friendship is over.
Through gentle storytelling and relatable characters, Huck and Loona explores themes of friendship, compromise, grace, and self-acceptance. The book encourages children to embrace their unique strengths, communicate openly, and build healthy relationships with others. Young readers and families attending Kilgore’s programs will have the opportunity to hear about the inspiration behind the story and learn more about the creative process of writing children’s books.
