Food Share Month kicks off Feb. 27th

The Minnesota Food Share March Campaign is an annual statewide effort to help local food shelves fight hunger.  Fundraising donations stay local but count towards the statewide effort.  The more that is raised locally, the larger the share of the statewide campaign.  This year’s campaign is February 27th – April 9th. The Longville Area Food Shelf is asking individuals, organizations, businesses and townships to join us in supporting our local food shelf.  We have a goal this year to raise $75,000.00 during the March Campaign.

The past year was an unstable one due to inflation and rising prices on everything, including food. Many in our community – elderly, children, friends and neighbors continue to suffer from hunger and food insecurity. Your contributions, no matter how small, help to fight the war against hunger.

In 2022 The Longville Area Food Shelf saw an increase of 76% of total people using the food shelf. This was 1,160 households and 3,513 people. We had 103 new households that had never visited our food shelf.

In 2022, The Longville Area Food Shelf kicked off our Emergency Assistance Program to help families in crisis situations. We helped families with utilities, temporary shelter in the winter, coats for kids, school supplies including back packs, and warm socks.

Most of our food donation budget is raised during the March Campaign. Remember, every dollar you donate is used to benefit the food shelf clients, who are also our neighbors! All overhead costs (heat, electricity, phone, etc.) are covered by proceeds from Tossed & Found Boutique.

There are many ways to help support this campaign. Individuals, businesses and/or organizations can donate funds by mail at PO Box 308, Longville, MN 56655, in person at the food shelf or Tossed & Found, or you can make an online donation at GiveMN.com.  If you want to do more, you could hold a food and/or fund drive.

Food is a basic human need. Please help to make a difference in our community. With your help, we can work to relieve some of the struggles of having to choose between buying food or paying rent.

We remain humbled and grateful for your continued support. We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our caring and generous community.  Thank you for your support!
