Heidi was born January 19, 1946 in Walker, Minnesota to Ira Leslie and Avis Adeline (Shofner) Eckman. She attended school in Walker until the fall of 1954 when her family moved to Akeley and she continued her schooling there.
In 1959 they moved back to Walker and she returned to the Walker school, then went to work for the Johnson family on Ten Mile, and the DeWitt family in Walker prior to her move to Remer. There she worked at the Deer Haven Lodge on Thunder Lake. Following her employment there she worked for the Bob Burch family, caring for their children, one of whom is now Sheriff Tom Burch. In November of 1968 she married Douglas Olson and they lived in Minneapolis for several years prior to moving back to Walker with their two children. In addition to being a homemaker she worked as a home health aide for Caring Hands, and also was currently providing care for her daughter who has multiple sclerosis.
Heidi will be remembered for her laugh and great sense of humor, and her giving and caring spirit. She enjoyed playing cards and taking care of her grandchildren . She was also an Elvis fan, and a lifetime country music fan, never forgetting "Teen Angel" as her favorite song growing up. Heidi was always supportive and positive and loved her family very much. Her presence as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend will be missed.
