Mille Lacs walleye fishing closure is July 1-15

   Walleye anglers on Mille Lacs Lake are reminded that a two-week walleye fishing closure — implemented to reduce hooking mortality, which is the percentage of fish that die after being caught and released — will be in place from Thursday, July 1, through Thursday, July 15. 

DNR, Great Lakes states join aquatic invasive species prevention event

   The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will join hundreds of organizations to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species during the third annual Great Lakes AIS Landing Blitz, June 26 to July 4.

High fire danger brings restrictions to north-central counties

   To help ensure public safety and protect natural resources, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is activating burning restrictions beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday for the southern and eastern portions of Beltrami county, and all of Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Morrison, Todd and Wadena counties.

Experimental early teal season in place, shooting hours extended for 2021 hunt

   Hunters have a new opportunity to harvest up to six teal during an experimental five-day early teal season and shooting hours will continue until sunset rather than ending at 4 p.m. during the first portion of Minnesota’s waterfowl hunting season.

DNR stresses safety after deadly few weeks on the water

  It’s been a deadly start to the open-water season in Minnesota.     As of June 16, as many as nine people have been victims of boating fatalities.

DNR responds to wildfire at Scenic State Park

   Firefighters are responding to a 10-acre wildfire located in Scenic State Park, 3 ½ miles southeast of Big Fork.

Free license now required for small game hunters younger than 16

There has been little change on the angling scene this past week. If you're after walleyes the daytime bite is still kind of tough. Winnie is doing better than Leech Lake, look to the mid lake structure in depths of 18' to 25' depending on the conditions of the day.
