Outdoors - Food plots

   We like to put out food plots for the deer and turkey. This provides high energy food to help sustain them during the cold and snowy winter when little food is readily available. 

DNR asks late-season boaters to play it safe

   Minnesota’s waterways were unusually deadly this year, with 17 people losing their lives in boating-related drownings and crashes—the highest number since 2005. And with weeks of open water left this year, there’s a chance that total could climb higher.

DNR announces $13.3 million funding proposal to address drought impacts

   The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources today announced $13.3 million in funding proposals in response to the significant effects of this summer’s drought on two of the state’s critical natural resources: water and trees.

Zebra mussels confirmed in Woman Lake

   The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed a report of a zebra mussel in Woman Lake, near Longville in Cass County. Girl Lake will also be added to the infested waters list, because it is downstream of and closely connected to Woman Lake.

Hunter walking trails provide access to public hunting

   The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources maintains hunter walking trails as easy ways to travel by foot through wildlife management areas, state and federal forests, and other public hunting lands.

Fall turkey season opens Sat., Oct. 2

   The Minnesota fall turkey hunting season offers hunters a challenge and another way to experience the outdoors in October.

   Since I was a little kid, I have owned and shot guns. Starting at about seven years old with a BB gun shooting tin cans and sparrows up to the present, I have used shotguns, rifles, and handguns for hunting and various shooting competition or games.

Fire restrictions lifted on the Chippewa National Forest

   Recent rainfall and cooler weather conditions across the Chippewa National Forest has decreased fire danger, prompting officials to lift all fire use restrictions, effective Friday, September 10, 2021.

   Anglers over the summer caught and released a new Minnesota state record northern pike and tied the record for muskellunge.

Safety on the water a prerequisite for successful fall boating

   Labor Day weekend marks the end of the recreational boating season for many Minnesotans, but it is imperative they don’t let their guard down as the season draws to a close.

DNR continues webinars on hunting and fishing skills

   Anyone interested in hunting, fishing and the outdoors can learn about activities like how to hunt pheasants, catch bass in the fall or get ready for deer seasons by joining webinars hosted by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Outdoors - Farm improvement

   Part of my farming operation is controlling the invasion of brush and trees in the pasture and hay ground. If left unchecked, I think the whole farm would be timber covered from fence to fence.

Return to mandatory testing in chronic wasting disease zones this season

   Chronic wasting disease testing for deer harvested in certain deer permit areas will once again be mandatory for specified weekends of the 2021 deer hunting season.

   The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is embarking on a transformational effort, in collaboration with Minnesotans, to identify a new funding framework for outdoor recreation and conservation.
