Shovel Lake to host National Night Out Aug. 8
All are invited to celebrate National Night Out on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Shovel Lake Soo Line Crossing. This year’s theme, “Digging into the History of Shovel Lake,” highlights the community’s railroad history while bringing neighbors and local law enforcement together.
Deep Portage programs continue in August
Deep Portage Learning Center will kick off its August public programs with a Clothing Swap on Aug. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants can bring clean, gently used clothing items by 2:30 p.m. and receive a ticket for each item donated.
Lakeside Concert Series in Hackensack

Hwy 6 Construction Underway
Motorists traveling between Outing and Remer will encounter a detour after the Minnesota Department of Transportation closed sections of Highway 6 beginning Aug. 3 for culvert replacements as part of a 17-mile resurfacing project.
Apply for special youth deer hunts now through Aug. 14
Applications are open for special youth deer hunts that allow young people to hunt deer with adults in a number of state parks. In a change for this year, lead-free ammunition (mndnr.gov/hunting/ammo/nontoxic.html) will be required without exception for all special youth hunts in Minnesota state parks.
