Woodrow Township Board
To the residents of Woodrow Township. Do you know what is going on in your township government? Do you care? Unfortunately, I think it is the latter or there would not have been two resignations from the town board in the last two months.
The Sting of Stings!
Recently the democrats released an ad depicting a republican congressman rolling an elderly lady off a cliff to create an illusion of how heartless the republicans are. The word allusion means: an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly.
Clearing up a misconception
There's an old saying that perception becomes reality, so maybe it would be helpful to address a growing myth before it becomes truth in the minds of Minnesotans. It has been good to return home and talk with local citizens after the 2011 session ended. Most folks want the scoop …

Team Fireflies is getting ready for another amazing American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. Our team's theme for this year is "Hope, Comfort, Fight." We hope to promote the message: "When the world whispers 'give up,' Hope whispers 'keep going!'" The Northern Cass County Relay for Life will be …
Mother Nature wins this year
The Pine River-Backus Area Relay For Life was forced to move indoors due to our rainy season in central Minnesota. Fortunately, the survivors, teams, and community were very flexible. The teams quickly set up in the commons, the luminary bags were placed in the gym, and 33 survivors showed up …
Problems can't be solved by ignoring conditions and distrorting facts
Our country has been in a worse debt crisis then the present one. In 1946 the debt was 122 percent of GDP. The big difference was in the past both Republicans and Democrats worked to solve the problem so the deficit came down to 32 percent in 1981. Then Reagan …
Blame Dayton
I spent the shut down weekend running the Cass County Republican booth at the county fair in Pine River. It was obvious from the start that the Minnesota government shut down was planned by the DFL all along. Dayton had no intention of negotiating with the GOP Legislative leadership, but …

In the early part of the 20th century the modern liberal came into political power to curb what was called by them, the extremes of wealth and poverty under "unrestrained" capitalism. One century later... here we are in the 21st century with the extremes of taxation and regulation under "unrestrained" …

Water Safety Class kudos
Our son and two of his friends recently took part in the boat safety course in Hackensack (July 7, 2011). What a great experience! All three now have a healthy respect for safety -- things like wearing a life vest and being aware of weather conditions out on the lake
Response to Zimmer
I'm a bit tardy responding to Mr. Zimmer's letter in the July 5th issue attacking me and the Republican Party. I've been busy promoting the GOP in Cass County with two county fairs and three parades in less than two weeks.
The American dream
In 1934 I attended the State School for the Blind, at Faribault. That was in the Great Depression and the blind kids had almost no hopes of getting a job when they finished school. Going to a street corner with a tin cup and a musical instrument or selling pencils …
