Woman Girl Lake water patrol seeks volunteers

There is a small group of dedicated, volunteer boaters who cruise the waters of Girl and Woman Lake in a boat provided by the Cass County Sheriff. Their goal is to enhance safety on the water and verify that boaters are operation in compliance with Minnesota boating regulations.

Can you do it?

For over twenty years, a group of volunteers have been mannig the "Can Bin" located behind the Longville Library. Those pop and beer cans have netted about $4,000 per hear to help purchase equipment for the Longville Clinic

Faith In Action forms friendships

Faith in Action for Cass County appreciates the dedication of community volunteers. These volunteers are often the lifeline for seniors in rural Cass County, providing visits, rides to medical appointments, church, and grocery shopping.

Why I Relay

I initially wanted to start this story with "I HATE CANCER", but then Zach Sobiech a 17 year old with Osteosarcoma passed away after his fight with cancer. If you have read about Zach, you know that his message is about life and not about hate.

Cans removed

The Can Bin has been behind the Library for almost 20 years. Last fall (for the first time), almost 1/3 of the cans were removed from the bin on two occasions.

Wanted...Library volunteers

Wanted ... your time and your money. Both are wanted with regard to the Margaret Welch Memorial Library of Longville. First, the library is looking for volunteers to work in the library itself.

Mid-week resort trail hikes

The Itasca Moraine Chapter of the North Country Trail Assoc. has scheduled the second of three Mid-week Resort Hikes that are designed for people who have not hiked the trail before. Experienced hikers can join as well and have a good experience.

At least we can eat 'em

The rusty crayfish of Woman Lake may be in bigger trouble than I thought: Some 200 folks gobbled up more than 200 pounds of rusty crayfish at the First Annual Minnesota Bound Crayfish Boil held July 6 at Patrick's. Even Raven, the black Lab, nabbed a few.

The Longville Area Food Shelf has been part of the Northland Area Family Service Center for the past 15 years. It has been our pleasure to watch the Longville Food Shelf grow into the caring business it is today.

Traffic deaths on the rise

Minnesota is suffering a deadly year on our roads. Traffic deaths this week topped the 200-death mark for the year and we are on pace for around 450 deaths for 2013, which would be 55 more than 2012.
