100 Years Ago

September 30, 1926

   Messrs. Felton, Siltman and Whitted dug potatoes the first of the week in Wabedo while home from camp.

   O’Neill broke camp Monday and his buildings have been sold to different parties in the neighborhood. Things will soon be back to normal on the Harvey Fee farm.

   Richard Thompson is building new chimneys on the Manders’ cottages at Longville.

 75 Years Ago

Oct. 3, 1951

   Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Loff of Longville were Mr. and Mrs. Frost and daughter of California. Mrs. Frost will be remembered at Alice Folwick.

Howard George Chambers, Boy River, and Marian Strejn, Boy River, applied for a marriage license on September 29th.

   A ceremony at the Henry Mostrom home on Woman Lake united Zella Kromer and Henry Mostrom in marriage. Leon LaValle served as best man and Norma Barleau was the bridesmaid.

50 Years Ago

September 23, 1976

  On Sunday August 22, nearly 100 people attended the Tabaka family reunion held at the home of Mrs. John Rohr; Mrs. Rohr was the former Kathryn Tabaka Andrews.

   Three Hackensack men, George, Young, Greg Dupre, and Jim LeBlanc who were among those who spent many long hours assisting at the recent forest fire west and southwest of Hackensack were more than grateful for the food furnished them round the clock. 

   Art and Velma Combs hosted an overnight camping party last Saturday. Guests were Bud and Mary Fuller of Grand Rapids, Cec and Dort Carpenter of Remer, the Jack Osterholtzs, the Orv Johnsons and Len and Ida Tabaka, both of Longville.

25 Years Ago

September 30, 2001 

   Warren Bridge died September 25th. He was born August 6, 1918, to Harold and Vera Bridge in Iowa. He married Virginia Behr in 1943 during Naval training in Detroit, MI. After his discharge they moved to Federal Dam where they operated a fishing launch service, and he worked as a guide for over 40 years. He is buried in the Fairview cemetery at Federal Dam. 

   Emogene “Em” Cheney died September 26th. She was born August 21, 1930, to Dewey and Frances (Ross) Slater and grew up at the Vermillion lake area and attended school in Remer and Boy River. She married Oliver Cheney on July 12, 1947. They briefly lived at Grand Rapids before returning to Remer.

   Robert “Bob” Edwards was born May 5, 1939, on the family farm on Lake Inguadona to Roland and Marion Edwards. He married Harriet Fox in 1961. He died September 22nd.
