17-year-old Walker youth identified as homicide victim


   PIKE BAY TOWNSHIP—Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that a 17-year-old male from Walker has been identified as the victim in a Sept. 13 death in Pike Bay Township.

   At approximately 7:57 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a request for an ambulance from the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department for a male who was possibly deceased in the area of John Moose Drive NW, rural Cass Lake.

Medical personnel and law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and located the male deceased in the yard of a residence. An investigation was immediately initiated.

An autopsy was conducted by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled the death a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Leech Lake Tribal Police, Minnesota State Patrol and the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force.
