The Hackensack Lakeside Park Refresh Project received a generous boost thanks to a $2,000 donation from Share and Care in Hackensack. This contribution will help the Park Committee to replace broken and damaged equipment and create a more accessible, welcoming, and enjoyable outdoor space for residents and visitors of all ages.

Pictured presenting and supporting the donation are Dean Husfeldt, of the Park Committee and Hackensack Lions; Vicki Vorel, of the Hackensack Lions and Share and Care; and Hubert Hubin of Share and Care. Photo submitted.

The Lakeside Park Refresh Project focuses on replacing the aging playground with new, accessible, nature-inspired equipment designed for children ages 2–12. Plans include accessible play features, improved surfacing, a concrete walking loop and additional opportunities for families to gather and enjoy the park. The improvements will help ensure that Lakeside Park exists as a treasured community destination for years to come.

Located along Birch Lake near downtown Hackensack and the Paul Bunyan State Trail, Lakeside Park is a widely used common space that attracts kids and adults. Weekly Lakeside concerts, fishing contests, and town events are all held at this location. In addition, it provides an outdoor play area for thousands of children each year. Updating the playground will make the park even more inviting for families and visitors.

While the $2,000 donation is a welcome contribution, more funding is needed to bring the entire project to completion. The Park Committee and its supporters continue to seek donations, grants, and community partnerships to help reach the project’s funding goal.

Every contribution makes a difference, as the Committee has applied for a matching grant through the DNR Outdoor Recreation Grant program. If received, this would double the value of contributions.

Those interested in supporting the Lakeside Park Refresh Project can send donations to:

The Park Committee extends sincere appreciation to Share and Care and all the individuals, businesses and organizations helping invest in the future of Hackensack. Together, the community can make Lakeside Park an even better place to play, explore and enjoy the outdoors.
