Investigators seek information in teen’s shooting death

CASS LAKE – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the Sept. 13 shooting death of Dylon Oothoudt. The 17-year-old Walker, Minn. resident was found deceased in the yard of a residence on the 1600 block of John Moose Drive NW in Pike Bay Township in rural Cass Lake. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Oothoudt died of homicide by gunshot wound.

Investigators have identified a gathering of individuals who were in the area of John Moose Drive NW around the time of the incident. Investigators believe others may also have been in the area who either witnessed or were involved in the incident.

Investigators are asking people to come forward with any information about the incident including the identity of witnesses or individuals involved in Oothoudt’s murder.

“We’re asking you to do the right thing, for Dylon and his family, by sharing what you know,” said Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk. “You can remain anonymous, but those responsible for his death must be held accountable for their actions.”

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 218-547-1424 or 800-450-2677. You can also contact the Crime Stoppers of Minnesota Hotline at 800-222-8477 or submit a tip online at www.crimestoppersmn.org. Tips can be anonymous.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is assisted with its investigation by the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department, the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
