Local Author Jan Payne speaks at the Longville Library
The Margaret Welch Memorial Library in Longville will be hosting author Jan Payne on Tuesday, June 9 at 11 a.m. for an author talk and question/discussion time. Jan is the author of Rabbit Moon and Changing Woman’s Hair.
Drawing from her years in the Southwest and the Navajo Nation, Jan Payne writes on themes of courage, regret, hope, and restoration in a world of created kinships. She attempts to reflect in her fictional Marin Sinclair book series, centered in Dinétah, the high regard she holds for the land and the people of the Navajo Nation. She attributes an early interest in writing to a wealth of family stories, including that of a great-great aunt taken captive by Comanche/Kiowa raiders in 1870s Texas. She is a member of Western Writers of America and Women Writing the West and she and her husband, Jon, live in the Leech Lake area of northern Minnesota.
This presentation is part of the Legacy Programs which are funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s art and cultural heritage.
