100 Years Ago
May 20, 1926
Fire destroyed 400 acres in the Chippewa National Forest on the south shore of Pike Bay. Before the fire was under control, 40 acres of virgin pine forest were despoiled. The area was known as Ten Sections.
A Cass county feller named Saylor, once plied the high seas as a whaler. When a big female shark, showed her snoot for a mark, he would up with his harpoon and nail’er.

May 16, 1951
A Clean Up Day will be held Saturday, the 26th, at the Blind Lake Tabernacle. Everyone bring tools, rakes, shovels and each family should bring a picnic lunch.
Messrs. Howard and Alan Grams are driving new Chevrolet cars in Pontoria these days.
Warren Atherton plowed gardens for neighbors, Elwin Myers, Walter Gish, Ezra Smith and Erwin Kibbler in Boy Lake township.

The Hackensack Lions Club met May 6th and voted to form a steering committee with the intent of building a community building for the city.
Pete Giffen, Charlene and Colleen Lego went to Omaha to attend the wedding of Dana Nobson and Fred Munyer, Jr. The Munyers will live at Federal Dam as he is employed at the docks.
Mr. and Mrs. Norm Brakke from Rochester came up to Inguadona township where they bought the Jim Mix home on Inguadona lake and will soon be living here.

Helen Swartz died May 9th. She was born December 16, 1918 to Robert and Mary Marshall of Redwood Falls. She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for 15 years until her marriage to Willis Swartz. She has resided in Remer since 1953.
Longville Elementary students honored as outstanding students for the month of April are: Liz Tabaka, Jacob Murley, Laurel Wright, Luke Jepson, Matthew Stallings, Tina Digre and Corrine Neururer.
