The Mystery of Who’s Next

By By DeeDee Rauchbauer, Northwoods Arts Council | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

The Northwoods Arts Council (NAC) was formed in September 1993 by a group of seven people who were interested in the idea of bringing theatre, art, music and educational opportunities to Hackensack, Minnesota. Since then, NAC has established legal and non-profit status and the mission has remained the same. Over the years, there have been many champions of the different art expressions the NAC promotes. People who love the arts and want to help enhance the Hackensack community have joined the council to contribute. One passionate volunteer, Sue Ready, who has been with the NAC since 2008, has faithfully led the author portion of the Art and Book Festival for 12 years and has continued to build on its strong foundation. The first festival was held in 1995 and it has become an event that the community has come to love, as demonstrated by the increase in attendance each year. We can proudly say that we are the “Longest Running Art and Literature Festival in Minnesota”.

Sue Ready has announced stepping down as our Author Events Coordinator next year. She will be entering her next chapter as she sells her Hackensack home and moves to Arizona. Sue has created something truly special for both authors and the community. As one participating author shared, “This is one of the most welcoming and well-organized author events we attend all year.”  Her departure next year leaves an opportunity for someone to step in and help guide the author’s portion of the festival this year, working alongside her to learn how it all comes together. Relationships are already formed with the 35 authors who participate and there is a waiting list for others who want to join. Processes are in place to manage the author registrations, and the festival flows like a well written book, thanks to the tremendous work Sue has put in, and the help of so many volunteers.

As we turn this page, we are seeking someone who is passionate about literature and wants to see the author portion of the festival remain intact. Perhaps you are part of a book club that would consider taking on a group project this year.  If you have a love for books and enjoy working with people, this opportunity could be a good fit for you. The foundation is strong, and the path forward is well established for anyone ready to step in. If interested, please send us an email at [email protected] or visit www.northwoodscouncil.org for more information about our organization. You may be just the person to help solve the mystery of who’s next.
