Aquatic invasive species workshop at Longville Library

As part of the July Libraries Love Lakes month at the Longville Library, lake residents and visitors are invited to come to the Margaret Welch Memorial Library in Longville to attend a free,  informative Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) workshop on Thursday, July 2nd, from 1:00–2:00 p.m., led by limnologist (lake scientist) and Blackwater Lake cabin owner, Carolyn Dindorf.

Through a photo‑rich presentation and hands‑on examples of both invasive and native aquatic plants, snails, and mussels—including preserved specimens and a selection of live plants—you’ll gain practical, lake‑owner‑focused knowledge, including:

What qualifies as an aquatic invasive species

How AIS threaten the health, ecology, and usability of lakes and streams

The invasive species most likely to appear in the Longville area

Key identification tips to help you recognize problem species early

Minnesota Laws to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species

Steps to take if you discover a potential AIS on your property or shoreline

This workshop is designed to help you protect your lake investment and contribute to the long‑term health of our local waters.
