  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

June 24, 1926

   Because of the heavy rains through this district, Rev. Jerdee was unable to hold church services in Inguadona.

A 3-day celebration of July 5, 6,and 7 will take place at Onigum. Orators are Judge R. Whitney of Walker and Chief Jim Goose Greenhill of Squaw Point.

   A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Kline last Friday with Dr. Borreson of Remer in attendance.

 75 Years Ago

June 21, 1951

   Gary Sheehan, a resident of Boy Lake township as a young boy, homesteaded a tract of land there before WWI. During the war he painted battle scenes and generals. After the war he became a staff artist for the Chicago Tribune. He donated four of his original paintings to the Boy River school, hoping to inspire new artists.

   St. Edward’s Catholic Church was dedicated June 21st. After a High Mass, everyone retired downstairs to a pine-paneled hall where a turkey dinner was served.

50 Years Ago

June 18, 1976

   There will be a wedding dance at the VFW Hall on June 13th honoring Dennis Ford and his bride, the former Linda Teller. 

   Mrs. Richard Carlson, her daughter, and her father from Chicago came up Wednesday to their cabin on Trelipe Lake.

   Mrs. Doris Gish is enjoying a vacation in Hawaii as her daughter Connie is living there. 

25 Years Ago

June 20, 2001 

   Robert Manders died June 9th. He was born in Pine River to Ralph and Selma (Sletta) Manders and was a lifelong resident of Longville. He married Lois Stengel in 1949 in Bemidji. Bob owned the Standard Gas Station until 1972 and then was a used car salesman. His daughter is Brenda Manders of Longville.

   Austin “Tut” Graham, 85, died June 13th. A WWII Air Force veteran, he was the owner of Remer Bottle Gas and Appliance for many years. His daughter is Kay Blais. His wife, Elsie, preceded him in death.
