100 Years Ago

July 26, 1926

   Willie Bassett has returned to Onigum from the blueberry field around Schoolcraft River and reports there are very few berries this year.

   Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Sorum and family and Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Skogen and father of Remer had their picnic dinner in Vangen’s grove in Inguadona on Sunday.

   The Emil Hrdlichkas are at home again at the little house they lived in before they built the large one that was recently destroyed by fire.

 75 Years Ago

July 27, 1951

   Ted Elyea of Backus of Ted’s Service was badly burned in a gas explosion accident         while servicing a car and died because of the accident.

   Everyone had a nice time at the Farm Bureau picnic at Boy Lake township at Ted Blum’s resort. He had a new road bulldozed into his resort.

   Albert Tuenge of Remer and Cora Mae Patterson of Remer applied for a marriage license on August 1st.

50 Years Ago

July 23, 1976

  Word was received of the death of Reuben Rogness of Royal, Iowa. He was a former camp counselor for the Tall Timber Boys Camp when it was in operation on Webb Lake.

   Les and Marge Wolff and Marge Thompson, Kego township, were judges for the Hackensack Sweetheart Beauty contest for the Hackensack Sweetheart days.

   Win and Fayne Scott attended a family gathering at Boy Lake. They reside in a new home on the Pikie Point road.

25 Years Ago

July 24, 2001 

   Betty Worcester was born April 26, 1926, in Longville to August Frederick and Laura Mae Hill Bliesner. Betty attended schools in the Longville area. She married Clayton Worcester on December 10, 1943, and they lived in Cass Lake from 1966 to 1998.

   Bernice Rottier-Davis died July 20th. Her parents were John and Frances Przymus Sperka. She was a pioneer of the Baby Lake area since the late 1930s and was married to Charles Rottier. They had their own power plant and maintained their own telephone line. After Charles’ death, she married Maurice Davis.

   Gladys Genrich died July 3rd. She was born to John and Mary Baker in Wisconsin. She married Cliff Genrich in 1930. In 1942 they moved to Big Boy Lake and owned the North Star resort for 15 years. In 1972 the resort was sold to daughter Donna and son-in-law Jim Seybold.
