Backus Lions continue busy summer with community events
The Backus Lions have been busy this summer. Along with operating their popular Polish stand, the club has also introduced an occasional Wednesday evening sloppy joe meal, served from the Polish stand at Godfrey’s store. The next meal will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22.
The club’s next major event is the annual Fly-In Pancake Breakfast, scheduled for Sunday, July 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Backus Airport. Community members from Backus and the surrounding area are invited to enjoy breakfast while visiting with friends and neighbors.
The Backus Lions also announced that this year’s peach sale has been canceled. According to the club, the peach crop ripened faster than expected, and the available delivery dates did not fit the organization’s schedule. The club plans to bring the fundraiser back next year. In the meantime, customers are encouraged to watch for peach sales hosted by neighboring Lions clubs in Nisswa, Nevis, Crosslake, Remer and other communities.
The Backus Lions expressed appreciation to the community for its continued support of the club’s fundraising efforts over the years and looks forward to continuing its events in the future.
Funds raised through the club’s various events are reinvested in the Pine River-Backus area through scholarships and donations to local organizations and school groups. Additional proceeds support the charitable foundations of Lions Clubs International.
