  Information for 100, 75, 50 and 25  year news briefs was researched and gathered by Renee Geving and Cec McKeig from Cass County newspaper archives at the Cass County Historical Society.    

100 Years Ago

July 12, 1926

   Residents of Remer and Big Rice Lake blew out the bulkhead of the judicial ditch which diverted water from the lake. The Board voted to rebuild the bulkhead and remove any obstruction that had been placed in the river to stop the natural flow of water.

   George Boe and Violet Halverson of Remer secured a marriage license on July 12th. 

   Mr. and Mrs. Bijou Chase and daughters left for Wisconsin where they will pick blueberries.

 75 Years Ago

July 13, 1951

   Clifford Lund of Boy Lake township is employed at the Boeing Airplane base in Minneapolis.

   Ed Trombley, who was the depot agent in Remer for 22 years, died at the age of 58. His fondness for flowers during his long stay, made a beauty spot of the depot grounds. 

   At a ceremony in Duluth, Colleen Hugert was married to Raymond Perrault, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Perrault, formerly of Remer. 

50 Years Ago

July 9, 1976

   Seventy people enjoyed the Bicentennial program and refreshments sponsored by the Brevik Ladies Aid at the Ted Haugen home on Saturday, June 26th.

   Memorial services will be held later this month for Erwin Sumption who died July 1st. He has lived in the county since 1926. He served on the Kego township board, the Soil Conservation Service and the Cass Co. Extension Committee. He was also a member of the Brainerd Musician’s Union.

   The Norman Daubers and the Albert Snyders had new peas and potatoes for Father’s Day dinner at Blind Lake. 

25 Years Ago

July 10, 2001 

   Karen Marie Zenk Baldwin of Longville graduated with a degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from St. Cloud University on May 12th.

   Amy Horn of Remer graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geology from Gustavus Adolphus College during May commencement exercises.

   Some 567 entries at the July 4th Turtle Races exploded the old record of 440. Andrew Caswell, 11, from Federal Dam captured the Grand Winner title.
