Concerned residents seek review of Boy River RAR

Residents along the Woman Lake Chain are concerned that water levels are reaching historic lows following the installation of a new rock arch rapids (RAR) on the Boy River. The structure was built to replace the former dam while allowing fish passage between the lakes. However, residents say the RAR has increased outflow from Girl Lake, and, combined with ongoing drought conditions, the lower water levels are affecting the entire chain. Concerned property owners have formed a committee and are privately funding an independent engineering review of the outlet structure. On Aug. 19, the Longville City Council filed a formal complaint with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, as required by statute, based on information provided by the property owners, requesting the evaluation to determine whether the RAR is contributing to declining water levels.
