100 Years Ago

August 26, 1926

   William Pell has been busy with his boat taking out fishing parties to the big lake, and he reports good fishing. John Tucker is carrying the mail to Walker while Joe Gould is haying.

   Miss Vera Ellis and Raymond Tabaka were united in marriage at the Catholic church on August 23. Vera teaches school at Longville, and Ray is a resident.

   Dr. and Mrs. Hough purchased a new Ford touring car last week, and Gust Bliesner of Wabedo bought the doctor’s old one.

August 31, 1951

   A Federal Dam feller named Fuller, got stuck on a girl named Maud Muller. He kissed her one day, while raking the hay; fill out the rest for yourself.

   Superintendent Al Cernia announced that Longville school will start on September 4th with busses arriving at 9 and leaving school at 11:30. This time for leaving is only for Sept. 4th.

   Mr. and Mrs. Durwood King and family left Blind Lake township for Cravett, Arkansas where they expect to stay for the school year.

August 19, 1976

  Vacationing at their mobile home at Norm’s Resort for several days were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Osterholz of Des Moines.

   Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lessard from Duluth called at the W. A. Rogers home at Inguadona. She is the former Lucy Haberman who taught at the Twin Lake school 40 years ago.

   Mr. and Mrs. Richard Malmquist of Blackwater Lake were Sunday evening visitors at the Knute Anderson home at Pleasant Lake.

August 28, 2001 

   The Remer Chamber of Commerce signed papers Monday to purchase the Soo Line depot and restore it as a tourist information center and museum.

   If we could find other things as easily as we find fault, we’d all be rich.

   Evelyn Houchins died August 21st. She was born May 11, 1922 to Maurice and Grace (Slater) Godfrey in Salem township and attended country school and Boy River school. She married Elwood Houchins, a nearby neighbor, on October 19, 1941. She spent her lifetime within two miles of her birth in Remer.
