Shovel Lake to host National Night Out Aug. 8
All are invited to celebrate National Night Out on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Shovel Lake Soo Line Crossing. This year’s theme, “Digging into the History of Shovel Lake,” highlights the community’s railroad history while bringing neighbors and local law enforcement together.
The event begins at 5 p.m., with presentations starting at 5:30 p.m. Mike Chalich’s family history will be shared about their history working on the railroads; Aitkin County Sheriff Dan Guida and Cass County Sheriff Brian Welk will speak.
The evening will feature a potluck picnic and live music. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share, their beverage of choice, eating utensils and a lawn chair. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Donations will be accepted to help purchase Neighborhood Watch signs, and volunteers are welcome. Organizers are also seeking ideas for future National Night Out events.
National Night Out is an community-building campaign designed to strengthen relationships between neighbors and law enforcement while promoting safer, more connected communities.
