Livin’ Lake Friendly Seminar: How Forestry and Shoreline Choices Matter
Do you love the lakes in the heart of Minnesota’s lake country? Join Cass Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for a free shoreline seminar designed to help protect the region’s most treasured resource—clean, healthy lakes.
Northern Cass County is home to some of Minnesota’s most pristine watersheds, which play a critical role in the overall health of the Upper Mississippi River Basin. As part of a targeted Priority Lakes Initiative, Cass SWCD is hosting two informative events that will bring together forestry, shoreline, and freshwater experts to discuss how small actions can have a big impact on water quality.
The initiative focuses on eight priority lakes in Cass County: Woman, Girl, Blackwater, Birch, Pleasant, Mule, and Ada. These lakes were chosen for their ecological significance, connectivity to the greater watershed, and their vital role in supporting the region’s economy and recreational opportunities. However, the practices and principles shared during the seminar are relevant to all residents—whether you live on one of these lakes, another waterbody, or even further inland. The information applies across all of Cass County
As part of this effort, Cass SWCD is working to maintain or achieve a 75% forested landscape in these critical areas. This goal supports not only environmental health but also the sustainability of tourism and outdoor recreation in northern Minnesota.
“We’re inviting all residents, landowners, and community members to learn more about how simple, effective actions—both inland and at the shoreline—can protect the lakes we all love,” said a representative from Cass SWCD. “Together, we can ensure these beautiful waters remain clean and vibrant for generations to come.”
The seminars will cover practical, data-driven approaches for shoreline and forest management that residents and landowners can implement to preserve lake health for generations to come.
