Fundraising dinner for Children’s Fishing Contest June 18
On Wednesday, June 18 from 5 to 6 p.m., the Union Congregational Church (401 Lake Ave. Hackensack) will be hosting their monthly fundraising dinner with all profits from free-will donations being given to the Children’s Fishing Contest. This 501(c)(3) organization was founded back in 1997 by Robert Kennedy, and a group of friends in Hackensack, that had an idea to involve kids in a fishing contest, and as his son, Mayor Bill Kennedy said, “The rest is history.”
This seemingly small idea has exploded into one of the area’s most cherished, weekly community events that draws kids and their families down to the Hackensack fishing pier. This event is open to all children, whether a resident, visitor or a family passing through, all are welcome to try their luck in participating in the contest.
As Bill explained, “The contest runs from 11:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. with prizes awarded at 1:00 p.m. There are three age groups of up to 5 years of age, 6-9 and 10-15 with the categories being First Fish, Most Fish, Smallest Fish and Largest Fish. There are also casting contests and minnow races.” To make things even better, there are free hotdogs and soda pop beverages for all Children’s Fishing Contest attendees.
Speaking of food, the delicious fundraising dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, a fresh salad, homemade bread sticks and yummy desserts, all crafted by our amazing Tammy Lindberg. Plus, don’t miss out on live entertainment from the Northwoods Acoustic Jam, hosted by the one and only Dick Kimmel!
