Happy Dancing Turtle and Pine River-Backus Community Education are proud to host the 19th Annual Back to Basics sustainable living event at Pine River-Backus School on Saturday, February 15. Attend the 8:45 a.m. keynote address and the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. vendor/exhibitor fair for free; no registration is required.
Benjamin Winchester, rural sociologist with the University of Minnesota Extension’s Department of Community Development, will present the keynote. “Ben Winchester’s talk on rewriting the rural narrative will be packed with stories and numbers. He has a great ability to add depth and perspective to some of the benefits and challenges of rural life. Furthermore, he frames some very interesting possibilities for the future,” said Jenny Hill, Happy Dancing Turtle’s communication specialist.
The Back to Basics Vendor/Exhibitor Fair is open to the public from 8-4. Visit more than 50 booths of sustainably themed vendors and chat with knowledgeable people while shopping for things like honey, baked goods, sauces, jams, mushrooms, seeds, tea, books, fiber craft supplies, jewelry, body care, candles, pottery, and hand-crafted art and clothing items. Take time to chat with experts on gardening, agricultural and environmental issues, community resources, clean energy, natural remedies, and more.
Workshops and lunch are also part of the event with registration and fees required. For more information, go to happydancingturtle.org/back-to-basics.
